Tough Techs Qualify 6th at GSR 2013
The Tough Techs qualified 6th out of 45 teams in the BAE Systems 2013 Granite State Regional First Robotics Competition. Qualification matches have teams randomly selected to participate with an alliance of 2 other robots against an opposing 3-team alliance. After 10 matches the Tough Techs were 8-2, earning them the 6th seed in the GSR tournament. (GSR Qualifying Match Results)
The tournament is setup for 8 alliances in double-elimination. Initially 6th seed, Team 151 moved up as alliances were formed. As Captain of the 5th alliance we invited FRC Teams 229 and 1277 to join us. After two very close matches in the quarter finals, the Tough Tech led alliance was forced to concede. The second match was lost by only 5 points. Very close indeed! Good effort!
But our most interesting claim to fame at GSR may be this: our qualifying match #59 was the only loss handed to the eventual tournament winning alliance - led by Team 610. They had a well-built robot with a very well trained team and up til then had won every match, but we had their number that time. Team 151 on Defense!
A well-run regional all-around. Kudos to BAE Systems and all those volunteers who made the event a success.
On to St. Louis!
